Talents UnlockedReality Music Competition

The series

A background is nota destiny.

Talents Unlocked is a reality music competition with a single conviction at its center: that the men and women coming home from prison are carrying songs the world has not heard yet.

The problem

A record follows people further than it should.

A conviction can close doors on housing, work, credit and community long after a sentence is served. Talent does not disappear in that time — it goes underground, unexercised and unheard.

The idea

Give the music a stage instead of a label.

Put singers, rappers and songwriters on a real stage in front of a real audience and judge what they do there. Not their file. Not their worst day. What they can do now, with a microphone in their hand.

The point

Let the audience see a person, not a past.

Every episode asks viewers to do one thing: watch somebody perform and forget, for three minutes, what they were told about them. That is how a culture changes its mind.

Our mission

“Talents Unlocked is a reality music competition giving formerly incarcerated men and women a chance to break free from their past, showcase their God-given musical talent, and prove that their background doesn’t define their future.”

Talents Unlocked

What it looks like

A competition.And something more useful.

Contestants are drawn from open casting as well as referrals from churches, reentry programs and community organizations. They come in with a song and a story, and they compete on the song.

Rounds are performed live before an audience. Judges give real feedback, because respect is telling somebody the truth about their craft. Contestants who do not advance still leave with their work seen — and with connections the series helps put in front of them.

The competition is real. So is the reason for it.

Talent is the evidence. Faith is the reason.

We call these God-given talents because that is what they are — gifts a person did not buy and cannot lose. The series is built on the belief that those gifts are still there after prison, waiting for somewhere to go. For our contestants that gift is a voice, a verse, or a song they wrote. That belief is what the show is for, and it is why contestants are treated with dignity on camera rather than used as a cautionary tale.

If you believe in this, there is a place for you in it.
